Featured here is an official copy of the 225-page Dowd Report signed boldly in black marker on the red cover page by former MLB player and manager Pete Rose. Dowd on behalf of the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball that detailed the transgressions of Pete Rose, baseball player and manager, in betting on baseball.Dowd was a longtime attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice and a former Marine Corps Judge Advocate. He was appointed by MLB to lead the special counsel in multiple investigations with the organization in the 1980s and ‘90s involving sports betting and bribery, the most notable of which was the Pete Rose investigation that resulted in Rose’s eventual banishment from baseball for life. The report was submitted to then-MLB Commissioner Bart Giamatti in May of 1989 and published in June 1989. It was accompanied by seven volumes of exhibits, which included bank and telephone records, alleged betting records, expert reports, and transcripts of interviews with Rose and other witnesses. The official bound copy offered here is in near-mint condition and measures 8.5” wide by 11” high. It includes clear, protective covers on the front and back.
