Phil Masi Award Collection (4) Including 1947 and 1948 All-Star Game
<p>Collection of three vintage awards presented to Boston Braves catcher Phil Masi between the years 1947 and 1949, along with the 1984 "Jimmy Archer" award. Each of these awards originates from Phil Masi's personal collection and has been consigned by a family member. The collection consists of the following: </p><p><strong>1) 1947 All-Star Award Plaque</strong>. Issued to Masi for his selection to the 1947 All-Star Game. The wooden plaque features an engraved metallic plate that reads "All-Star Award/National League/To/Phil Masi/In Token Of His Selection/To/Baseball's All-Star Team/1947." The facsimile signature of National League President Ford Frick appear in the lower right corner. A mounting chain is attached to the top border. The wooden mount (8.5x7") displays several chips, scratches, and abrasions, while the engraved plate has a few minor blemishes. </p><p><strong>2) 1948 All-Star Award Cigarette Box</strong>. Issued to Masi for his selection to the 1947 All-Star Game. The engraving on the silver-colored metallic box reads "All-Star Award/National League/To/Phil Masi/1948." The facsimile signature of National League President Ford Frick appear in the lower right corner. The box (6.25x3.5x1.5"), which features two interior wooden compartments, displays light tarnishing. </p><p><strong>3) Civic Award</strong>. Small wooden plaque, designed in the shape of a shield, presented to Masi by the Italian Sons & Daughters of America. The metallic plate is lettered "Italian Sons & Daughters/Of America/Forbes Field/Aug. 19, 1949/Phil Masi/Liberty-Unity-Duty." A mounting chain is attached to the reverse. The wooden mount (7x5") displays two moderate chips along the top border. </p><p><strong>4) 1984 Jimmy Archer Award</strong>. The large wooden plaque features a facsimile of Masi's "Honorary Life Membership" card to "The Old Timers' Baseball Association" displayed at the top. The engraving below the card reads "Jimmy Archer Award/Presented to/Phil Masi/In Appreciation for Outstanding/Dedication and Service to our/National Pastime/By/The Old Timers' Baseball Ass'n Of Chicago/April 9, 1984." The plaque (10.5x16") displays a few small nicks along the top portion.</p>
