Huge and diverse collection of photos from deep down in the newspaper archives of the San Francisco Examiner. Photos date from the 1920's to the 1970's. Distribution breakdown is fairly evenly dispersed among the decades. A sampling of subject matter includes aviation photos such as pilot John Henry Mears from 1930, the 1952 U.S. Equestrian Olympic team, 1942 photo of bowling sensation Ernie Goetschmann, 1953 photo of skier Warren Miller, 1957 photo of English female racing sensation Nancy Mitchell, 1931 photo of several men being charged with selling "solid" wines during prohibition, 1939 photos of Danzig, Poland as it was being "liberated" by the Nazis, and much much more. Sizes average 7" x 9" and conditions range from GD to NRMT with most VG to EX. Most have caption sheets on the verso.
