Program From The First Night Game In American League History

Program From The First Night Game In American League History

Here's a rare find - a scored program from a historic baseball game. On May 16, 1939, the Cleveland Indians outlasted the Philadelphia A's, 8-3 in 10 innings. But more notable than the result was the fact that the game was played under the lights at Shibe Park. This was the first night game ever played in the American League, four years after the first National League night contest in Cincinnati. Interestingly enough, Shibe Park would host the first All-Star Game under the lights four years later. The program is VG, with pencil notations inside.
