Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal

Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal

One of the most famous images ever taken by a photographer and, yes, a true wire photograph. The first vintage specimen we have owned of this stirring Pulitzer Prize winning image, as indelible today as when it was taken in 1945. This print was produced 15 years after the original as stated on the paper caption on the back of this gloried original. AP image shows the American flag atop Mount Suribachi. Examiner stamp on verso. EX-MT. 7x9”.

This lot is from the legendary San Francisco Examiner Archive (SFXArchive).
This is one largest collections ever of historic vintage photos spanning the entire 20th century.
