Rare 1927 Suzanne Lenglen Signed Photograph - Six-Time Wimbledon Champion (1919-1925)

Rare 1927 Suzanne Lenglen Signed Photograph - Six-Time Wimbledon Champion (1919-1925)

Photo signed by French tennis player Suzanne Lenglen, six-time Wimbledon Champion between the years 1919 and 1925. Lenglen has inscribed the photo "To the Ross/Carlson Institute/So Marvelous!/Suzanne Lenglen/1927." Both the inscription and signature have been boldly scripted in black fountain pen and grade 10/10. The photographer's credit, "Apeda, N. Y.," appears in print at the base. Lenglen was the greatest woman tennis player of her era and the first World number 1 ranked woman's tennis player of the amateur era (1921-1967), a ranking she held from 1921 to 1926. Lenglen died in 1938 at the age of thirty-nine, which has resulted in the rarity of her signature today. The photo (6.5x8.5", visible dimensions) displays a tiny tear near the bottom border and is otherwise in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 14.5x17.5".
