Rare 1949 New York Yankees American League Champions Pennant

Rare 1949 New York Yankees American League Champions Pennant

Well-seasoned into a steel blue color, this rare 1949 Yankees pennant (VG-EX) was purchased at the World Series of 1949. It reads in white silk screened lettering on felt, “New York Yankees, American League Champions.” Eleven names in all are screened on pennant: DiMaggio, Henrich, Rizzutto, Keller, Berra, Brown, Johnson, Page, Lopat, Reynolds, and Stengel. Especially interesting is the pin-back button still attached to this item, which reads (blue on white) “N.Y. Black Yankees,” which was an Albany-based team that played in the Negro Leagues, but played their last season in 1948. The very tip of pennant has a rip, but is still attached and assisted by a piece of Scotch tape. Measures 28".
