Rare 1960-61 Denver Broncos AFL Jacket
Displayed is a rare 1960-61 Denver Bronco AFL windbreaker warm-up jacket. It was worn by either Dave Strickland in 1960 or Buzz Guy in 1961. Strickland was on the inaugural 1960 Denver Bronco team in the first season of the American Football League. That team, coached by Frank Filchock, went 4-9-1. Strickland was a 6'0", 220 lbs., from Memphis University. He played in all 14 of Denver's game that season, and he started four games at guard. He also returned a kick-off for nine yards. In 1961, Denver had a 3-11 record. Melwood "Buzz" Guy, a third-round pick by the 1958 Cleveland Browns, joined Denver for the 1961 season, and the 6'3", 248 lb. guard played in nine games that year, starting seven. "Broncos" in gold script, is sewn onto the left chest. Below that is the number "63" in gold numerals sewn onto the jacket. On the lower left interior waist is a "Butwin" manufacturer's tag. Next to the manufacturer's tag is a tag giving washing instructions for this nylon windbreaker. There are six snap buttons down the front. The black jacket has no size tag. The windbreaker shows light use, and it is in excellent condition. The windbreaker has great vintage appeal since it goes back over six decades, to the earliest days of the American Football League.
