Rare 1960 Chicago Bears vs. Dallas Cowboys Full Ticket
Presented is a rare full ticket to the Dallas Cowboys at the Chicago Bears NFL game at Wrigley Field before 39,951 fans on Sunday Nov. 27, 1960. The Cowboys in that season were an expansion team, and Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry was short of top-flight talent. His Cowboys came into the game with a record of 0-9. The Bears, skippered by Hall of Fame coach George Halas, came into the game at 4-3-1. The Bears won 17-7, as Rick Casares and Johnny Morris scored touchdowns for Chicago and John Aveni added a field goal - and Hugh McIlhenny scored a TD for Dallas. Pro Football Hall of Famer George Halas was a former star NFL end, and he was now the owner/coach of the team he founded - as well as being one of the founders of the NFL. He also played in 12 games, five in right field, his main position, for the New York Yankees in 1919, and in 22 at bats hit 091. In an what would generally be considered an upgrade, the Yanks went on to get a new right fielder for 1920 - Babe Ruth. One of the Dallas quarterbacks in the game was Eddie LeBaron, a 5'7" former U.S. Marine who was twice wounded in combat in the Korean Conflict, and, for his diminutive size and great leadership, he was known as the "Littlest General." Dallas finished its inaugural season at 0-11, but the great Tom Landry took the team to a winning record in the club's sixth year, the first of 20 consecutive winning seasons for Dallas. The full ticket measures approx. 2.25x5.25". The ducat is for a $4.00 ticket for the upper grandstand. The ticket has an unknown name written in pencil on the back by an unknown hand. The ticket exhibits some darkening and is in very good condition. The ticket stands as a memento for the Cowboys first season and for a game in which each team was directed by a coaching legend: Tom Landry and George Halas.
