Rare 1974 Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman On Site Poster - "From Slaveship to Championship"

Rare 1974 Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman On Site Poster - "From Slaveship to Championship"

Rare on-site boxing poster heralding the heavyweight title bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman held in Kinshasa, Zaire, in 1974. This was the original poster issued for the fight, but it was hastily recalled shortly afterwards because of its title, "From Slaveship to Championship," and its depiction of Africans in chains. As a result, examples are seldom seen today. The design is also interesting because it features an extremely large image of fight promoter Don King. In the bout commonly known as "The Rumble in the Jungle," Ali shocked the world by knocking out the heavily favored Foreman in the eighth round. He did so be employing a strategy he called the "rope-a-dope," whereby he let Foreman tire himself out with countless punches to the body while Ali stayed covered up on the ropes. The poster (23.75x37"; visible dimensions) displays a few light creases and is in apparent Very Good to Excellent condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 33x46.5". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
