Rare 1980 Michael Jordan Junior Year High School Yearbook
1980 was the year Michael Jordan exploded onto the basketball scene. One year removed from being told he wasn't good enough - or tall enough - to earn one of the 15 spots on the varsity team, he dramatically put Emsley L. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina on the map. The motivated and blossoming superstar wasted little time taking over games and drawing attention from Division 1 colleges like North Carolina, where he signed on to play for fellow legend Dean Smith. This blue-bound 1980 Spinnaker yearbook that features Jordan on several pages is in EX condition and is filled with autographs from its owner, "Joey." But the star of THIS show - the man who many believe to be the greatest basketball player ever - is identified as "Mike Jordan" on Page 110 in a small headshot. Additionally, he appears on Page 166 in two action shots, rising for a dunk and attempting to block a shot, wearing his familiar #23 in both, as well as sitting for the team photo, although wearing #24. On the facing page, there's another shot of Jordan elevating for a slam. On Page 187, Jordan appears in the back row of a Booster Jocks group photo, and on Page 220, he's once again standing in the back row of the Spanish Club group picture. Who knew?
