Rare 1996 Mickey Mantle Day Game Used Ball Signed by Joe DiMaggio (PSA)
Offered is a rare Rawlings Official American League Ball (Budig), signed by the Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio, that was specially produced for Mickey Mantle Day at Yankee Stadium on August 25, 1996. Mantle passed away on August 13, 1995. Mantle and DiMaggio, both lifetime Yankees, are forever linked as Mantle was the heir apparent for DiMaggio when both players were on the 1951 New York Yankees. In fact, in the opening game of that '51 World Series, Mantle suffered a serious leg injury when he caught his foot in a storm drain in the Yankee Stadium outfield in attempting, as the right fielder, to defer to DiMaggio in center field on a fly ball. DiMaggio retired after that '51 season and Mantle moved to center as DiMaggio's replacement. Mantle carried DiMaggio's crown in superb fashion, as Mickey blasted a lifetime 536 home runs, the most by any switch-hitter in history. The winner of three American league MVP's and the Triple Crown was a key part of seven Yankees World Championships. DiMaggio riveted the nation when he set the still all-time consecutive game hitting streak record in 1941 at 56 games, and DiMaggio also won three AL MVP Awards and Joltin' Joe was on nine World Champion Yankees teams. The offered signed baseball was made especially for the Mantle Day game. As a memorial tribute to Mantle, all the printing on the baseball is black and even the stitches on the ball are black. Imprinted on the baseball is "New York 7 Mickey Mantle." DiMaggio has neatly signed the ball on the sweet spot in blue ink, and his signature is about 8/10. The Joe DiMaggio signed Mantle Day baseball connects the two great Yankees center fielders and makes a valued collectible. The ball's condition is VG-EX, and the Joe DiMaggio signature is 8/10. Comes with PSA LOA.
