Rare Babe Ruth Original Color Film Negative

Rare original color film negative picturing Babe Ruth on location during the filming of “The Babe Ruth Story” in 1948. The negative is accompanied by the photo’s original paper news caption, which was printed after Ruth’s death. In full: “The late Babe Ruth shown chatting with director Ross Lederman on the set of Roy Del Ruth’s ‘The Babe Ruth Story,’ on the Babe’s last trip to Hollywood where he supervised technical baseball sequences in the film." “The Babe Ruth Story” is considered one of the worst sports films ever made because of its horrible casting of William Bendix in the title role and the way it sugar coated every aspect of Ruth’s life. Ruth saw an early screening of the film just prior to his death and was so upset at the way his life was portrayed that he reportedly walked out before it was over. Ruth died before the film was released to the public, which was probably just as well, as it received poor reviews. The negative (5x4”) remains in Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
