Rare Kenmore Square (Fenway Park) MBTA Green Line Trolly Car Roller

Vintage Boston trolley car sign featuring numerous stops along the Green Line, including Kenmore, which is where one would get off if going to Fenway Park. The green-painted metal encasement, which features both a glass front and reverse, houses a black linen roll that can be moved up or down by twisting the large knob on the front. The roll lists nineteen different stops, each lettered in white, including "Kenmore," "Boston College Commonwealth," "Northeastern University," "Lenox St. via Tremont St.," "Government Center," and "Riverside via Subway." While we have seen one or two of the inner rolls from Boston trolley cars at auction over the years, this is the first example of the complete mechanical unit we have encountered. The piece, which measure 31.5" (L) x 11" (W) x 4.5" (D), displays heavy wear commensurate with its age and former use, including chips to the paint, scratches, and minor oxidation to areas of exposed metal. The device is in perfect working order and rolls easily when the knob is turned. It should be noted that the piece includes its original metal runner along the top with pre-punched holes, so it can be easily mounted upon a wall, where it could serve as the centerpiece for any advanced Boston Baseball or Boston transit collection. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
