Rare Late 1940s Washington Senators Game Worn Dugout Jacket
Rare Washington Senators jacket dating from the late 1940s. This is the first example of this attractive team jacket we have ever handled and cannot recall the last time we have seen another. The black wool jacket, with white-leather sleeves and white leather trim along each side pocket, features a "W" on the left breast, which has been applied in white felt. A "MacGregor/Goldsmith 42" label appears in the collar, directly to the right of which is the number "32" (denoting a uniform number) chain-stitched in red upon a white strip tag. Spalding was a supplier of Washington Senators uniforms during much of the early-to-mid-1940s, but in 1947 and 1948 the team switched to uniforms made by MacGregor/Goldsmith. Given the fact that this jacket was also produced by MacGregor/Goldsmith, it is reasonable to assume that it might date from that same two-year span. Outfielders Tom McBride and Junior Wooten both wore number "32" in 1947, with McBride wearing that number exclusively in 1948. The button-down jacket is original as issued and displays wear consistent with several seasons of use. There is a team repair on the front, directly below the right pocket, and the sleeves are lightly soiled, with a few minor stains.
