Rare Muhammad Ali Farewell To The Greatest Poster

Rare Muhammad Ali Farewell To The Greatest Poster

After the 1978 rematch between Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks in late 1978, as Ali beat the young boxer in a controversial fight and 15-round decision, the Greatest must’ve been planning to retire, for on this rare black and white poster is a “Farewell to the King” send-off, a stellar production at the Providence Civic Center on March 12, 1979, where “You’ll have a ringside seat,” and “the opportunity to socialize with Ali at a Cocktail Buffet…”. As it reads, it all built up to “five rounds” with Ali and Jimmy Ellis. On June 27th, 1979, Ali announced his retirement, only to “come back” in October 1980 to fight Larry Holmes, proving it’s never really farewell, whether you’re Ali, the Rolling Stones, or Streisand. 16 x 20" poster is in nice shape, with the obligatory pin holes in corners, and one upper left corner crease, and a short inconsequential wrinkle in lower right section.
