Red Schoendienst Bronze Sculpure by Harry Weber
Famed sculptor Harry Weber has immortalized Hall of Fame infielder and longtime Cardinal Red Schoendienst in this magnificent bronze piece that is one of a limited edition of 25. This one is particularly special as it was presented to Red, and it was in his possession for many years while the others were sold out immediately by Cardinals Care. Weber - a native of st. Louis himself - has had his work appear on the covers of several national magazines and displayed in several museums, including the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Signed by the artist, this heavy piece stands a little more than 18" tall, while its grooved wood and marble base measures 16.25" x 16.25" at its widest points. It depicts the second baseman making a defensive play around the bag, releasing the ball with his right hand while pushing off with his right leg. It is in NRMT condition and is a distinctive work of art. Weber's sculptures of famous sports figures are prominent features at 12 different professional and amateur ballparks, including St. Louis' Busch Stadium. Two years ago, he was named the Sports Sculptor of the Year by the United States Sports Academy. Schoendienst batted .289 over his 19-year playing career and has served the Cardinals in many capacities since hanging up his cleats, including two stints as manager.
