"Reggie's Amazing Night" Original Painting by Bill Purdom (31x17")
It was a night that will live forever in the minds of baseball fans, a single performance that became legendary even before the game ended. Shown is Mr. October - October 18, 1977 at Yankee Stadium, Game 6 of the World Series, unloading on a 4th inning pitch from Los Angeles Dodgers’ Burt Hooton. Behind the plate are Steve Yeager and John McSherry. The line shot following Thurman Munson’s leadoff single lands in the right field seats and erases a 3-2 Dodger lead. Lou Piniella’s sacrifice fly later in the inning gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead and set up Jackson’s encore performance in the 5th inning off Elias Sosa for a 7-3 Yankee advantage. Then, in the bottom of the 8th, Jackson launched a titanic shot into the CF bleachers off Charlie Hough. He had single-handedly led the way to the Yanks’ 8-4 win and their first World Championship in 15 years with 3 home run shots in one WS game. Only the original Mr. October, Babe Ruth, can boast the same and Reggie Jackson set a couple of different World Series home run records that day (still standing). This fabulous original artwork of that magic moment is unmatched in terms of reputation and baseball lore. Art is mounted on foam board. EX-MT.
