Robert Redford "The Natural" Worn Cleats

Robert Redford is not only a heartthrob as a handsome actor, but also a man who can really act - in any role. Perhaps you wouldn't mind being in Robert Redford's shoes. Now you can. Offered are the baseball shoes, cleats and all, that were worn by Redford during the filming of the film The Natural. In the 1984 film, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Bernard Malamud, Redford plays Roy Hobbs, a natural athlete who finds his career derailed as a pitcher and makes the major leagues years later as a natural hitter, a marvel. Redford really is a natural athlete. For the movie, he modeled his left-handed swing on that of Ted Williams, and Redford does such a good job of swinging the bat that movie critic Roger Ebert said, "You want to sign him up!" The shoes originated from a 1990 Lelands' auction in which we sold items from the movie that came directly from the prop company that handled the costumes and items. Redford's Roy Hobbs wore number 9 in the movie. The number "9" is handwritten on the tongue of each shoe, and the umber "9" is also etched on each shoe. The shoes have no laces, and no shoe size is indicated. Both shoes show great use. Dirt and clay are in the spikes. There are scuffs on the sides of the shoes, and the tongue of each shoe shows great use. The use is also evident as stitching is loose in the inside of left shoe's right instep. The back of each shoe, at the heel, shows wear as well. Also included is a 2.5x3.1" promotional baseball card of Redford as Roy Hobbs. The shoes must be great because Redford certainly moved as a great athlete in them. The cleats represent a piece of the iconic movie, one that was nominated for four Academy Awards.
