Roberto Clemente's Personal Money Bag from His Locker

Roberto Clemente's Personal Money Bag from His Locker

A wonderful item of Clemente arcana is this brown nylon money bag that Roberto kept in his locker at Three Rivers Stadium. Though one of the highest paid players of his era, he was just a bit early for the really big money to come, a fact perhaps underscored by the fact that the pouch contained a mere $2.02 in change when his possessions were cleaned out of his locker after his death, and which is still in it now. 6 x 10" drawstring bag has the Mellon National Bank & Trust Company logo on the front. Two adhesive labels have come off but have been retained, one reading "Clemente" in black and the other "21" in red. Bag VG+. From the Phil Dorsey collection.
