Roberto Clemente 3000th Hit Photos
We’ve all seen the old tapes of Roberto’s historic 3,000th hit on September 30, 1972 -- the final regular-season hit of his life that ended tragically only months later -- but almost no one has seen a perspective provided in this 3.5 x 5” b&w snapshot taken by a fan seated directly behind the plate at Three Rivers Stadium that day. Snapped at the exact moment Clemente made contact with Met lefty Jon Matlack’s pitch, it shows him angled to slap the outside serve, his bat a blur, the heads of the catcher and ump jerking to the right and Roberto craning his head upward. The one of a kind photo -- which would be awesome enlarged -- comes with 4 other shots taken that day including Clemente before the game and several scoreboard shots. Photos are VG-EX with some wear.
