Roberto Clemente Coin Sets Circa 1973
One moving tribute to the fallen Clemente was a 1973 issue of collectible coins of 13 active Latin big leaguers, 12 of which came in silver and only one -- the Clemente coin -- in gold. Coins were mounted on 9 x 12" plastic trays, 5 of which are offered here filled with coins -- with the gold Clemente included on each. Silver coins include Tony Perez, Rod Crew, Juan Marichal, Tony Oliva, Manny Sanguillen, Felix Millan, etc. Each tray reads "Estrellas Latinoamericanas del Beisbol" at the top and has brown faux-wood borders and a green and brown "infield" with the scripted names of the players scattered on it. Player bios are engraved in Spanish on the back, which is also engraved "Estrellas Latinoamericanos." Shorter bios are etched on back of the coins. Trays and coins are NRMT, with the Clemente goldies shimmering.
