Roberto Clemente Signed Check Dated 12/11/72
Baseball icon Roberto Clemente was killed in a plane crash on December 31, 1972. This check, dated 12/11/72, was written by Clemente less than three weeks before his death. The check is rare in that it has Clemente's name printed at the top, unlike the checks we usually see. Written in the amount of $7.86, it is made to Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados and drawn on Banco Popular de Puerto Rico. "FINCA" is printed above the account number, and the check is signed by Roberto Clemente. The bank's "PAID" stamp goes through the "Ro" in Roberto. Terrific memento of a truly great player who died way before his time.
