He will forever be known as baseball's first-ever designated hitter. Ron Blomberg compiled a .292 batting average over his eight seasons in the majors, primarily with the Yankees, with whom he continues to make appearances during alumni-related events. The jersey in this lot is a 1990 home Yankee pro model that Bloomberg used during a Yankees Old Timers' Game circa 1990. It has a "90" tag in the collar and "12" on the back, as well as Wilson size 44 tagging and is signed on the front. The 37" bat is game-used Adirondack (1970s) model 170X showing light use and signed on the barrel with "Game Used" notation. Also included here is a single-signed baseball. On On April 6, 1973, at Fenway Park, Blomberg made history as the first DH. He drew a walk against Red Sox pitcher Luis Tiant with the bases loaded in his first plate appearance of the game.
