Roots Author Alex Haley (24)

Roots Author Alex Haley (24)

Author Alex Haley is known as being the writer of Roots. What you may not have known is that he was also a writer for Playboy Magazine and he conducted the magazine’s first interview ever for the September, 1962 issue. The interview was with Miles Davis. He followed the Davis Playboy interview with others including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Cassius Clay, Johnny Carson and Sammy Davis, Jr. This collection of San Francisco Examiner and news service photos (24) chronicles his life and career during the Roots phenomenon and includes mostly laser photos in the 8" x 10" size range. The Conditions are mostly from GD-VG. There is a great shot of Haley with the cast of Roots including Ed Asner, Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges and Levar Burton. There is also a shot of Haley in front of his boyhood home in Henning, TN; and one of him on his boyhood home's front porch, where he once sat with his grandmother as a youth while she first told him stories of their family.
