Rube Marquard L1 Leather
The Rube Marquard piece from the highly sought after L1 Leather set from 1912 featuring illustrations of the game's greatest players. Hard as it is to fathom given their quality leather and large size (9 x 11 1/2"), these hides were issued as premiums by Helmar Tobacco Co. with their Turkish Trophies brand. Marquard, the great Giants southpaw who led the team to 3 straight pennants from 1911-13, was just as famous for marrying the vaudeville star Blossom Seeley, the kind of coupling that would land them on "Access Hollywood" every night these days. He's depicted on the leather uncorking one of his sizzling serves, the signature tight grin on his handsome face faithfully reproduced. Beneath his image is a printed, "Marquard, N.Y.N." Leather is a like new NRMT.
