Rutherford B. Hayes Signed Presidential Pardon
This fascinating piece is an actual Presidential pardon for postmaster SVR Sherwood, a Minnesota postmaster. After serving six months of his sentence for embezzlement of the United States mails, this is one of the 893 pardons executed by Hayes while in office. The elaborate 2-sided 14" x 18" document is signed at the bottom of the verso by "R.B. Hayes" and the Secretary of State. While there's some browning at folds, it's otherwise in excellent condition with interesting seal. Elaborately framed to overall 25" x 28".
