Ryne Sandberg Chicago Cubs Retired Number Flag

Ryne Sandberg Chicago Cubs Retired Number Flag

Displayed is a 2005 Ryne Sandberg retired number (23) flag. Hall of Fame second baseman Sandberg played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1981 and for the Chicago Cubs from 1982-1994 and again in 1983-84. He was an All-Star for ten consecutive years. He was a Gold Glove recipient for nine straight seasons, 1983-91. When he finally retired, his fielding percentage at second base was .989, the highest in MLB history. He holds the record for the most Silver Slugger Awards for any MLB second baseman, with seven. He batted .285 for his career, and his 277 home runs by a second baseman were the most in history when he retired. Sandberg was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2005, and his number 23 was retired that year on August 28th in a ceremony at Wrigley Field. Sandberg's retired number is only the fourth Chicago Cubs' number to be retired, following, in chronological order: Ernie Banks, Number 14; Billy Williams, Number 26; Ron Santo, Number 10. The offered retired number flag is made of nylon and it measures 5x7'. The flag is white, with blue letters and numbers. The flag has 14" long letters that are sewn-on to spell "SANDBERG". The numerals in "23" are also blue and each numeral is 25" long. The flag has hooks for hanging. The flag is in excellent condition.
