Sale of Slave Letter

Sale of Slave Letter

This is an original handwritten letter dated January 4, 1845 regarding the sale of a slave in the state of Louisiana. Signed by one R. W. Patrick, it details a financial transaction involving "one Negro man named John." Written in a gorgeous hand, the letter measures 8 x 12" and has been folded in quarters, showing typical postal fold marks. There are two prominent stains; one around the top fold and the other on the center fold. Otherwise, the letter is in excellent condition considering its age. A revealing window on another era of American history.
