Sam Houston Handwritten 1839 Letter
Handwritten letter from the man for whom they named Houston, Texas. Discusses his return to Washington while serving in the Congress of the Republic of Texas. Comes with a photogravure of Sam, with a facsimile signature. What’s most interesting about the letter is his mark under the signature, used to prevent forgeries in the 18th and early 19th century. His is most ornate and decorous, the mark of a truly flamboyant personality. The lettering and signature is bold, beautiful and pristine. Letter is 5x7.75” and the photogravure is 7.5x10.5”. Photogravure is Excellent.
