Satchel Paige Game-Worn Atlanta Braves Cap

Satchel Paige Game-Worn Atlanta Braves Cap

The 1969 Atlanta Braves were the very first winners of the National League West as divisional play began in the '69 season. One of the highlights from that special year was when Negro League legend Satchel Paige - long retired and serving as a "pitching coach" - pitched one preseason exhibition game vs. the Dodgers and struck out fellow Hall of Famer Don Drysdale. This 1969 Wilson Braves cap is a size 7 with "Satchel" written in black marker under the brim. Paige - who spent most of the year in his Kansas City home - "coached" for the team in 1968 and 1969 in order to earn enough time to receive a pension. That was made possible by then-Atlanta owner Bill Bartholomay in August, 1968.
