Satchel Paige Monarchs Wire Photo

Satchel Paige Monarchs Wire Photo

Vintage original 8 x 10 of the inimitable Satchel Paige uncorking a Trouble Ball or Midnight Crawler or Low Rider off the practice mound at Yankee Stadium, a venue he was made for -- but in his prime could only frequent when black-only teams rented out the place. Culver Pictures photo is dated 1941 when Satch had joined the Kansas City Monarchs in his “second” Negro league life, after an arm injury led many to believe he was through, but in reality was only just beginning. Seven years later, he’d make it to the bigs as a 42-year-old “rookie.” The ageless wonder was still chuckin’ in the ‘60s and was elected to the HOF in 1971. A perfect contextual image of this legend, the great photo has an original Culver stamping on the back and some pencil notations, as well as updated Culver labeling. Photo is technically G for bending damage of the corners but displays far better with an image as sharp as one of Satch’s curveballs.
