Satchel Paige On The Mound Painting by John Wolfe
Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige played for no fewer than 10 negro league teams before eventually making a major league roster shortly after his 42nd birthday. The team he spent the most time with, however, was the Kansas City Monarchs, and this large, 39x47" painting depicts him wearing a K.C. uniform and facing a team from Cuba. The exceptional piece is signed in the lower left corner by the artist, John Wolfe, who painted it in 1985, before sports art was the trendy thing to do. It comes in its original frame and is the first of its kind we have ever seen. Some of the artist's best works were these negro league paintings he did in the 1980s.
