September 20, 1993 Kansas City Chiefs Presentational Game Football
Displayed is a beautifully created presentational Kansas City Chiefs football that was used in the team's 15-7 victory over the Denver Broncos on a Monday Night Football game on September 20, 1993. In the game, Hall of Famer Joe Montana was at quarterback for Kansas City (coached by Marty Schottenheimer), and Montana threw for 273 yards in guiding the Chiefs to the win. All of the Chiefs points came on five field goals from Nick Lowery. Denver (coached by Wade Phillips) scored its lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard pass from Hall of Famer John Elway to Vance Johnson. In that '93 season, the Chiefs went on to have an 11-5 season record, winning the AFC West Division and advancing to the AFC Championship Game. The offered presentational football was used in the aforementioned Kansas City-Denver game and then painted over and presented to Albert Taxim, who was ill at the time with a brain tumor. The official Wilson NFL football (Paul Tagliabue, Commissioner) has one of lots panels painted white. Using black and red decorative paint, the panel reads, "ALBERT TAXIM This win's for You! Monday night Game 9/20/93 CHIEFS 15 DENVER 7." The football also has two painted logos of the Chiefs. The ball has a small part of a red painted border in which the paint has peeled back, and there are a few small, stray paint parts and a few spots in which tiny portions of the paint has chipped. Overall, the ball is in very good condition.
