Signed 1947 Stan Musial Chesterfield Cigarettes Advertising Display

Signed 1947 Stan Musial Chesterfield Cigarettes Advertising Display

Presented is a colorful 1947 Chesterfield Cigarettes advertising display featuring Hall of Famer Stan Musial. The 21x22" card stock display has Stan the Man holding a lighted cigarette in his left (throwing) hand. Musial is dressed in a tie-and-jacket, and first baseman/outfielder is wearing the baseball cap of his St. Louis Cardinals. In the previous season, Musial led the National League in batting at .365 and was the NL MVP. He would go on to hit an amazing .331 lifetime, as a 7-time NL batting leader, a 3-time MVP, and a 3-time World Series champ. Baseball stars no longer appear in advertisements featuring cigarettes, so it appears surreal to see a young, smiling Musial plugging cigarettes. The advertising copy says, in part, "Triple Smoking Pleasure/Always Buy Chesterfield." Musial has signed the display in neat script with a black marker. The display is 75 years old, and it does have some creasing, paper loss, some tears and a few small stains. Nevertheless, the display presents an unusual vintage remembrance of Musial, who played his entire 22 year career with St Louis, and who remains one of the most popular icons in baseball history. The display comes with an AUTO PSA LOA.
