Single Signed Gerald R Ford Signed Baseball (JSA)

Single Signed Gerald R Ford Signed Baseball (JSA)

Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States. Displayed is a single-signed Official American League (Bobby Brown) ball signed by Gerald Ford, in big and bold script on the sweet spot in blue ink from a ballpoint pen. Congressman Ford was appointed to the office of Vice President of the U.S. when Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in 1973, and then when Richard Nixon resigned over the Watergate Scandal on August 9, 1974, Ford was appointed to the Presidency, the only time a vice president who had never won election as either Vice president or President advanced to the Presidency. Ford was an outstanding football player at the University of Michigan as a center and linebacker. His Michigan teams were undefeated in 1932 and '33, and the Wolverines were National Champions in both seasons. During Ford's senior season in '34, Georgia Tech stated that it would not play Michigan if Willis Ward, an African American, and Ford's road roommate and best friend on the team, played. Michigan acceded to Georgia Tech's demands and Ford refused to play in protest, only agreeing to play when Ward asked him to participate. Ford played in the annual Chicago College All-Star game on Jan. 1, 1935, as the College All-Stars faced the Chicago Bears. Ford later turned down offers to play with the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. President Ford also loved baseball and once said, "I had a life-long ambition to play professional baseball, but no one would sign me." The Rawlings Model RO-A ball shows some use, with some marks from dirt and a few small stains. The ball comes with both a JSA sticker and JSA LOA for the signature.
