Spectacular 1949 Collier's Magazine Original Goauche on Artist's Board by John Cullen Murphy of Prince Valiant Fame
From the artist who penned the longstanding Prince Valiant strip, this amazing goauche on artist's board is another example of illustrator John Cullen Murphy's genius. Created for the January 22, 1949, issue of Collier's Magazine, this piece titled "Inside Sports - Pro Football" was scrapped at the last minute for a Ben Hogan piece. It measures 19x8.5" matted and comes with a copy of the issue anyway. The reverse of artwork features stamps from the Chatham Studio in New York plus sticker with title, author, artist, issue, delivery date and return address. Comes to us from the Gus LeDonne collection. The legendary football and sports collector, who passed away too soon in 2013, was a top of the line buyer, purchasing the best of the best in the early days of our hobby.
