"Spend A Buck" Oil on Canvas by Michael Duval Finnell (1947-1999)
This stunningly realistic portrait was fittingly done in 1985, the year that Spend A Buck won the Kentucky Derby and was Horse of the Year. Fine oil on canvas in original frame is NRMT and is artist signed and dated. One of the top equine artists in the world, Michael David Finnell's, work has been seen on ESPN, ABC, CNN, and published in equine magazines: Equine, Images, Bloodhorse, on racing programs, and the Franklin Mint. He did the official portraits for Cigar, Saratoga, Saratoga Rendezvous, Rubiano, Forever Churchill, the Breeders' Cup, and Swale with Woody Stephens. A portrait of Bill Clinton's mother, Virginia Kelly, hung in the White House during Bill's term as President. Michael held the distinction of being the only American artist to have painted on location at over 16 major tracks and had worked at all past Breeders' Cups before his death.
