Stanley Ketchel Fight Worn Boxing Gloves
Astonishing boxing artifacts from the renowned Billy Haack collection are the only ones ever to surface. Worn by young middleweight idol, Stanley Ketchel on May 18, 1909 in Pittsburgh, PA. against middleweight, Hugh McCann, they are certainly in the pantheon of collectible Americana. Pair of brown D&M gloves, bare the label of the manufacture in the lining, as well as the handwritten name, “Ketchel” in each (light but legible). With original laces, they show great use and wear with some crazing from age and use and some slightly shredded leather by the contact points. These were given to old time referee / fight promoter, Billy Haack; in the Memphis area. Included is a copy of an old newspaper article on Mr. Haack and his extensive glove collection. Memorabilia from this fallen star is all too rare, as he was murdered in 1911 at the age of 24, not permitted to ever reach his peak, having posted a record of 52-4-4.
