Steve Swetonic Circa 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Uniform

Steve Swetonic Circa 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Uniform

One of the Pirates' steadiest pitchers during the early 1930s, Steve Swetonic wore this heavy wool jersey circa 1933, which was his most impressive season in the majors as the right-hander compiled 12 wins in a career-high 21 starts. "PIRATES" appears across the front in red-on-blue felt, a style that originated during the 1933 season. The number "40" is on the back in blue felt and is quite worn with some pieces around the edges of the numbers missing. Swetonic is listed by Baseball Almanac as wearing number 43 but the 40 on the back of this jersey appears to us as all-original. His last name is sewn into the collar, along with a Spalding tag. The piping around the neck and sleeves shows lots of use and is missing in some areas. Only two buttons remain on the front of the jersey, but these could be replaced if so desired by the new owner. The lot includes pants that are from a few years later than 1933. There is a Spalding tag inside the waist band along with "Johnson" sewn in. In all, the tremendous vintage uniform is in nice condition with the only true flaw being a broken button on the fly.
