Sugar Ray Robinson NAACP Award
An NAACP Image Award is an accolade presented by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to honor outstanding people of color in film, sports, television, music, and literature. Similar to other awards, like the Oscars and the Grammys, the 35 categories of the Image Awards are voted on by the award organization's members (that is, NAACP members). Offered here is the original Image Award given to the great Sugar Ray Robinson in 1989. The trophy features a metallic figure holding up a globe on a black wooden base. The band around the base is engraved, " 22nd Annual N.A.A.C.P. Image Awards 1989 JACKIE ROBINSON SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RAYMOND "SUGAR RAY" ROBINSON." Minor scratching at wood base. 14" high. LOA from a member of the Robinson family and from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc.
