Sugar Ray Robinson Worn Gloves

Sugar Ray Robinson Worn Gloves

These beige boxing gloves were at one time fit tightly onto welter and middle weight champ Sugar Ray Robinson’s dangerous hands, and the creased leather, scattered stains, and soft, worn surface attest to his training with many partners in the ring. Sewn manufacturer’s tag on each glove’s wrist is “Golden Wilson Gloves,” and model # 280CL appears in faded silver in the palms, while just inside strung-up wrist-strapping are tags asserting that these mitts are “official according to AAU specifications.” Sparring gloves were given by Sugar Ray to one of his physicians. Includes LOA.
