Superb Roberto Clemente Single-Signed Baseball (PSA NM-MT 8 Auto)

Superb Roberto Clemente Single-Signed Baseball (PSA NM-MT 8 Auto)

Spectacular Roberto Clemente single-signed baseball is what we consider to be in the top 10 percent of all Clemente balls that we have handled. Specially made ball was for a 1970 Eastern Airlines promotion, with Eastern logo on a side panel, and Roberto is known to have signed a number of these. Still, it is rare to find his signature on the sweet spot on a single-signed ball as is the case here - he typically signed a side panel but the Eastern balls were all signed on the sweet spot. Blue ink signature is sharp and flowing, the ball is evenly toned to a cream color and is clean. Clemente remains one of the most soaring, yet tragic, figures in baseball history. Born in Puerto Rico to a large family of limited resources, he was a phenom at the Major League level, earning 15 All-Star Game nods, 12 Gold Gloves, four batting titles, and was MVP of the 1971 World Series. He recorded exactly 3,000 career hits - one of just 33 players to reach the plateau in MLB history - a number forever linked to his tragic death during the 1972-73 off-season when his airplane crashed while on a humanitarian mission to help earthquake survivors in Managua, Nicaragua.  Comes with PSA LOA.
