The T206 Eddie Plank card is one of the key rarities in our collecting hobby with only 100 examples known to exist. As the star pitcher for the Athletics, "Gettysburg" Eddie was the first left-hander to win 300 games. He contributed to two World Series championships and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946. So why was he found on a scant few cards in this particular set? The speculation has always been that the printing plate broke, but one would wonder if he took the same stance as Honus Wagner. This is possible because his card is found in small quantities over two different printings (150 and 350). As far as T206 Planks go, this example-graded PSA 5 EX-is one of only three at this grade with just a handful higher. The card has vibrant color and no creases or abrasions. The sharp corners have only light non-offensive wear. Centering is 40/60 left to right and 18/85 top to bottom. Clearly, there is a substantial white border at the top. The reverse is the Sweet Caporal 350 variety. Certainly a stunning card with a great presence. One of the five most important baseball rarities of the 20th Century and a cornerstone of any collection.
