Ted Williams Portrait By Arthur K. Miller
The "Splendid Splinter" never looked this splendid in a painting. Famed artist Arthur K. Miller began painting gorgeous portraits such as these from his Maine home in the early 1990s and this is one of several works from his brushstrokes that were blown up and graced the columns along the main concourse at the new Nationals Park in Washington, DC. Williams is depicted as manager of the Washington Senators circa 1970 before the franchise moved to Arlington, Texas for the 1972 season. Miller's signature appears in the upper left corner of the framed painting, which measures 13" x 20". One of the greatest hitters ever to enter a batter's box, Williams did not find as much success as a skipper, compiling a 273-364 record in four seasons, although in his debut season in DC, his Senators went a respectable 86-76.
