Ted Williams Signed Original Photo - The Babe Examines His Bat - PSA Type I

Ted Williams Signed Original Photo - The Babe Examines His Bat - PSA Type I

Original photograph capturing Babe Ruth and Ted Williams in 1948, flawlessly signed by Williams in blue Sharpie (grading 10/10) on the front. The image pictures Ruth seated in the stands examining one of Williams' bats while the two converse through the fence. An Associated Press stamp appears on the reverse, along with a Press Association stamp and a "Monday Mar 15 1948" date stamp. Also affixed to the reverse is the original paper news caption, dated "March 13," that reads in full: "The Old Master Inspects a Bat - Ted Williams, Boston Red Sox slugger, watches with interest as Babe Ruth examines his bat before the start of the St. Louis Cardinals Red Sox baseball game in St. Petersburgh, Fla." This is the first original Type I photo of Ruth and Williams we have ever offered, and we cannot recall having seen another Type I example of this particular image. The fact that it is also signed by Williams makes it especially appealing. The photo (9x7") displays a few light creases and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. A 1996 Christie's hologram label appears on the reverse, indicating that the photo originates from the Baseball Magazine Archives. PSA has encapsulated the photo, certifying both the signature as "Authentic" and the photo as "Type I".
