The Bat Used by Pete Rose to Get Hit Number 4,255
Pete Rose currently holds the Major League record for most hits with 4,256, and this bat was used on August 14, 1986 to snag the penultimate hit of his career, #4,255, which at the time was also a record. Rose would quickly eclipse 4,255, smacking the final and record-setting hit of his career only innings later in the same game. Nicknamed "Charlie Hustle", Rose had a storied career with a number of MLB teams, but his true legend revolves around the Cincinnati Reds, with whom he won Rookie of the Year, the '73 NL MVP, and two World Series, on top of 17 All-Star selections and dozens of other accolades throughout his career, followed by a five year stint as manager which was notoriously cut short by Rose's admittance that he bet on baseball. This 32 oz. 34" black Mizuno Pete Rose A.T.H.L. model bat is signed by Rose on the barrel in 8/10 silver paint pen, and he has also added "Hit 4255, 8-14-86" in his own hand. The bat is uncracked and has a 4.5" section of dirtied white tape on the upper handle. Ball marks on barrel have been slightly sanded by Rose, which was a common practice of his. Bat comes with a 1987 letter of authenticity from Pete Rose. Leland's sold the bat used by Rose to smack hit #4,256 in a 2010 auction for $150,000, so expect similar things from this item. This is a true one-of-a-kind piece of history guaranteed to serve as a stunning addition to any sports memorabilia collection.
