The Cap Nolan Ryan Wore the Night He Broke Walter Johnson's Strikeout Record
Offered is the very cap that Nolan Ryan wore to break one of the most important records in sports. Houston Astros cap is a New Era with the size tag removed. Signed on the inside brim "Nolan Ryan" with his "34" beside in nicely worn vintage marker. Shows beautiful wear and that perfect vintage look. Board in the brim is broken (creased by Ryan) about an inch to the right of the center. This is a telling detail, very specific to Nolan Ryan, and a great way to authenticate caps he wore during this time period. Obtained from the Sotheby's auction of the Barry Halper Collection and comes with their certificates of authenticity. Also included is a copy of the letter from Nolan Ryan to Barry Halper (the original has since been misplaced): "To Barry, I wore this hat on April 27, 1983 when I broke Walter Johnson's record." Photos from the sale match up perfectly with this cap; this is the magic 3,509th cap.
