The Day War Came To the Polo Grounds Program and Ticket Stubs
December 7, 1941, will always remain a day of infamy because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor at 12:55 p.m. Eastern time. It was a Sunday, and at the Polo Grounds at that hour, fans were celebrating “Tuffy Leemans’ Day” in honor of the star running back as the NY Giants prepared to clash with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Over the course of the game, the stadium announcer paged Col. William Donovan to answer a call from Washington and told all servicemen to return to their units, but it was only when the game let out that players and spectators learned of the attack. The program is in EX condition despite a small tear. The stubs are VG due to having been creased.
