The Final Out Baseball From The 2000 World Series
Certainly a baseball that is worthy of a spot in Cooperstown. This is the last out baseball from the historic 2000 World (Subway) Series won by the New York Yankees. The date was October 26 and the location was Shea Stadium in New York. The Yankees led the Series three games to one and in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 5, Mike Piazza was at the plate representing the tying run for the Mets and facing Mariano Rivera with two outs. Piazza hit a deep fly ball to dead center and it was caught by Bernie Williams clinching the 2000 Championship for the Yankees. It was the first three-peat by a team since the Oakland A's of 1972-74. The ball is an Official 2000 World Series model with Bud Selig as the Commissioner. On the top panel is the Rawlings logo while the 2000 World Series logo is on the bottom panel. This baseball comes directly from Yankees player Luis Polonia with his LOA. After Bernie Williams caught the baseball in center field he ran to the infield to celebrate with his teammates. By this time, the Yankees bench had cleared and a massive celebration ensued with Bernie being pounced onby his teammates who included Polonia. During the celebration, Polonia saw this baseball come unlodged from Willams' glove. He picked it up and stuck it in his pants. Later that evening, he had Mariono Rivera and Bernie Williams sign the ball. After getting the ball back to his home in the Domincan Republic, Polonia incribed the sweet spot "Last Out World Serie 2000 10/26/2000." The ball has also been signed by Polonia. Your chance to own a wonderful piece of Yankees history.
